Simon started training martial arts at the age of 7 when he was lucky enough to be taught Judo by Syd Hoare, who is now an 8th Dan and one of the premier Judo coaches in the UK. Simon also spent quite a few years kickboxing before he eventually found Jiu Jitsu. He became one of the first BJJ black belts in the country and is also a 2nd Dan in Judo. Simon also has the good fortune to have fought with some of the movie stars he’s met on set as he is an award winning feature film Sound Recordist.
Dickie was one of the very first British fighters to have achieved the rank of black belt in Brailian Jiu Jitsu. Dickie was introduced to BJJ by his childhood friend Simon Hayes in 2001, right at the birth of British BJJ. He also holds a 2nd Dan in Judo and competes regularly, going from strength to strength:
