Simon Hayes

November 2nd, 2011 — 9:45pm

Simon started training martial arts at the age of 7 when he was lucky enough to be taught Judo by Syd Hoare, who is now an 8th Dan and one of the premier Judo coaches in the UK.  Simon also spent quite a few years kickboxing before he eventually found Jiu Jitsu.  He became one of the first BJJ black belts in the country and is also a 2nd Dan in Judo.  Simon also has the good fortune to have fought with some of the movie stars he’s met on set as he is an award winning feature film Sound Recordist.

Dickie Martin

November 2nd, 2011 — 9:44pm

Dickie was one of the very first British fighters to have achieved the rank of black belt in Brailian Jiu Jitsu.  Dickie was introduced to BJJ by his childhood friend Simon Hayes in 2001, right at the birth of British BJJ.  He also holds a 2nd Dan in Judo and competes regularly, going from strength to strength:

  • IBJJF International Masters and Seniors 2011 Rio
  • 2x British Champion (2011, 2009 British Open black belt div)
  • Int. Masters & Seniors Champion (2011 Senior 2)
  • 2x Gracie Invitational Champion (2004, 2006)
  • 2x European Champion (2008 brown belt master div, 2010 black belt senior 1)
  • 3x European Silver Medallist (2004 blue belt adult, 2009 black belt senior 1, 2011 Master)

Along the way, Dickie has learnt a lot about training to win and that has helped him to become one of the best instructors around.  If you have a question and no one else can help, ask Dickie!
